Creating the Perfect Travel Playlist

Music, for most, plays a very important role in travel. Whether it be the entire reason for the trip (attend a concert, music festival or cultural tour) or perhaps a nostalgic soundtrack to a trip. For me, music and travel are symbiotically connected. In fact, one of my rules for having said you visited a place is to listen to the local music. (The others include:

  • Staying at least a night in the place;
  • Drinking the local libation and/or eating a local dish; and
  • Talking to at least one person from that location).

Every trip I have ever been on has its own personal playlist: Euro Rock in Prague; Soca and Reggae in the Caribbean; Salsa, Merengue, Bolero in Costa Rica; Kwaito in South Africa; Blue Grass in the Blue Ridge Mountains, etc….

I usually like to prep myself a bit before a trip, as well as create a post-trip playlist to have a musical “photo album” from my trip, if you will.

Now, I am creating these playlists for my clients to get them excited about their upcoming trips. Over the coming months, you can follow my Spotify playlists to take you on a musical journey to the places my clients are going…and perhaps it will inspire you to get up and go as well!

In the meantime, without saying exactly where I will be headed this summer (stay tuned for that!), here is a musical hint:

Me and friend Monica dancing to kwaito (South African hip hop)

I hope whatever you are listening to this summer is inspiring your travels! Let me know in the comments and I will add it to a collective travel playlist for the summer!
